It’s My Party and I’ll Donate Shoes if I Want To!

“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Jazzy, Happy Birthday to you!” Now, blow out the candles and make a wish! Maybe your child wished for the latest Angry Birds game, a Barbie Dream House or the new Justin Bieber CD? Seems pretty typical for a youngster in present day America. Most kids cannot wait to rip the balloon covered wrapping paper off of their gifts to reveal what is inside each year on their birthday. It is what we have come to expect!

This year, to her mother’s surprise, Jasmine “Jazzy” Larkins had something different mind as her birthday wish. On June 9, 2012, Jazzy will turn 7 years old, but instead of asking for the usual presents, cake and birthday party she has asked to help out those in need. Jazzy’s mom, Stephanie Larkins, asked Jazzy what she wanted this year and she said “I don’t want any presents this year. I want to donate 101 pairs of shoes to kids that don’t have any shoes”. Talk about a shockingly proud moment for the mother of two (Jazzy is little sister to Lilly).

After this announcement, Stephanie dove in to researching various shoe-related charities. That’s when she found Soles 4 Souls, an organization dedicated to collecting new shoes to give relief to the victims of abject suffering. They have donated shoes to those in need all over the globe, and being located in Tennessee will allow Jazzy to personally deliver her collection. They have even promised her a tour of the facility when she arrives!

Since 2005, Soles 4 Souls has delivered over 17 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class or any other criteria. The shoes have been distributed to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the U.S.A.
