Play Ball!
Baseball: America’s favorite pastime. There seems to be nothing better than heading down to the field, mitt in hand, ready to cheer on your favorite team – and maybe catch a fly ball! This past weekend marked the opening Major and Minor League Baseball’s 2012 season. Cities across the country were crowded with baseball fans just hoping that their home team would start the season off with a win.
It was much the same story in downtown Toledo on Friday, April 6. On this particularly beautiful sunny day, the streets were lined with people dressed in red, white and blue, celebrating and waiting to head into the stadium to claim their seats. The team the majority was routing for? Why the Toledo Mud Hens of course! The Mud Hens are Northwest Ohio’s very own minor league baseball team. The team of exceptional athletes call Fifth Third field home approximately seven months of the year. The Mud Hens play in the international league and are affiliated with the MLB team the Detroit Tigers (aka, their “farm team”). Mud Hen’s baseball provides sheer joy and entertainment to the citizens of Toledo, who crowded the stadium at for the team’s season opener last week.
The Mud Hens dominated over the Indianapolis Indians to claim a 5-1 win and a great start to the season.
Game Notes
- The crowd of 13,227 established a single game record for Fifth Third Field.
- Audy Ciriaco hit his first home run of the season.
- Adam Wilk was credited with his first win.
Stikii was lucky enough to join in the opening day activities. The Stikii Team was “on location” cheering on the home team and in attendance at the Toledo Free Press pre-game party. We brought along the Stikii mobile and thousands of balloons to give to fans. You couldn’t miss us, we created such a statement!
We set up a banner alongside the road, where we invited anyone and everyone to stop and check us out. We also brought along a selection of Stikiis, which we personalized with our new alphabet Stik-ems! One pair was custom made for Muddy, the Mud Hen’s mascot, and read “Mud Hens” across the the outside of the shoes. Check out all of these great shots from the opening day festivities!
We met up with our friends at Frogtown Deals, who helped to keep the crowd informed about Stikii and their ecommerce partnership!
Even the Toledo City Council supported Stikii! Thanks George Sarantou for the nice words and your time helping a local Toledo company!
Mud Hens fans couldn’t wait to find out what all the buzz was about! See if you know any of these baseball lovers who fell in love with Stikii too.
The day was so fun and full of excitement, especially after the Mud Hens recorded W1 for the season.
A very special thanks to FrogtownDeals.com and Tom Pounds and The Toledo Free Press for making the day a success!
