Stikii’s Star-Studded Shoe Drive!

What does Stikii have in common with NFL and NBA stars, and International Recording Artists?? The 2nd Annual Summer Shoe Drive, that’s what!

The 2nd Annual Summer Shoe Drive serves the “forgotten” Charlotte North Carolina homeless community. The main goal of the event is to collect thousands of pairs of shoes to bring relief to the feet of the homeless in the area. The creation of a network of local charitable organizations dealing directly with the needy will help to make this goal attainable. We hope that upon seeing what it is that we are doing, communities will take over the effort of assisting the less fortunate. The Shoe Drive Team consists of:

Chad Ochocinco (NFL)

Chad Ochocinco (born Chad Johnson) is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2001 NFL draft and played college football at both Oregon State and Santa Monica College. In April 2011, Ochocinco was listed as #1 on CNBC’s list of the “Most Influential Athletes in Social Media”.

Many others!

After NFL great Ochocinco referred to Stikii shoes as “brilliant kicks” in a tweet back in May, the football star asked Stikii to join the team as a national sponsor!!

The 2nd Annual Summer Shoe Drive will be partnering with the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, and organization serving four additional homeless shelters, including those who still seek shelter on the streets. The funding for many shelters has been cut drastically in recent year, and this shoe drive aims to help lift the burden so many shelters are carrying. The goal is to collect at least 1,000 pairs of shoes, but Stikii believes that we can collect many more!

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there are upwards of 700,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States. Of that number, 404,957 are individuals and 238,110 are families. 17 percent of the homeless population is considered “chronically homeless”, meaning they have a serious mental illness or substance addiction and cannot seem to overcome being homeless. Many of the homeless citizens barely get by, and cannot afford even the necessities such as food, shelter, clothing and even a sturdy pair of shoes!

So, what can you do to help Stikii and the cause? Tell your friends! Add your name and/or organization to the growing list of shoe drive participants! Help us reach our goal of multiple campaigns by starting a shoe drive in your own community! This fundraiser continues through July 13, 2012. Shoes may be dropped off at the Toledo Stikii location or shipped directly to Charlotte, NC.
